Wakefield is comprised of Sanbornville, Wakefield village proper, East Wakefield, North Wakefield and Union. Conveniently located close to Route 16, a major North South route, and near the intersections of Route 109 and Route 153. The easterly portion of Wakefield is bordered by the state of Maine. Wakefield was incorprated in 1774 and is home to Pine River Pond, Belleau Lake, Stump Pond (Balch Pond), Sandy Pond, Lovell Lake, Union Meadows, Lake Ivanhoe, Great East Lake, Province Lake and Horn Pond.
